CIPD Annual Conference 2018: 4 not-to-be-missed sessions
Billed as the HR event of the year, attracting over 5,000 HR and People professionals, the CIPD is gearing up for an ambitious and topical conference and exhibition this year in Manchester, UK on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th November.
Taking the lead on change in organizations is the theme.
The programme covers a range of hot topics, from technology and AI to professional standards and predicting the future of HR. It’s a huge event packed with rich and relevant content and sessions.
We’ll also be there, talking about our latest research and giving demos of our global cloud HR and People system over the two days, so don’t forget to drop in and see us on stand C90 in the exhibition hall.
Where do you begin with what sessions to choose, though? We’ve picked our top four sessions to get you started planning your visit.
1. Opening keynote by Rachel Botsman: The new era of trust and why it is key for success (Wednesday 7th November at 9.45am)
Rachel Botsman, best-selling author and TED speaker, was one of the most inspiring experts we heard earlier this year at UNLEASH Las Vegas.
Back on her home turf in the UK, we’re delighted to get the chance to hear more of her persuasively argued case for the ethical and inclusive organization. It’s compelling not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because she links it conclusively to business success.
We’re hoping to hear more tips on how to embed trust within organizations, and the specific benefits this will bring, from driving innovation to attracting the best talent.
2. Research Director at Future Workplace and bestselling author Dan Schawbel: Back to human – creating connections in the age of isolation (Wednesday 7th November at 4pm)
As a New York Times best-selling author and partner at Future Workplace, speaker Dan Schawbel is a high-profile expert on the future of work.
We think his advocacy of a socially connected workforce resonates strongly with our convictions about the shift from HR to people and the importance of delivering truly valued employee experiences in enlightened People Companies.
Dan promises to share practical tips about how to turn your workplace into an environment where people thrive and perform optimally.
3. Panel discussion: Reducing stress and supporting mental health at work (Thursday 8th November at 2.30pm)
This is a vital and topical subject. Stress and a lack of mental health support are a toxic combination that affects performance and means good people leaving the workplace prematurely.
Executive Director of the Healthcare People Management Association Nicky Ingham, Strength Coach Ian Pettigrew and L&D Consultant David Hayden will lead a practical discussion of how to support employees better and create a workplace where anxiety and depression doesn’t thrive.
Their diverse perspectives – the Healthcare People Management Association, Kingfisher Coaching and the CIPD – look set to produce real insights.
4. Closing keynote from Sir Lenny Henry CBE: Demanding more diversity and true inclusion (Thursday 8th November at 3.30pm)
We’re excited to hear what household name Lenny Henry has to say. He has long championed diversity and inclusion in the performing arts, during his own stellar career as a comedian and actor.
Drawing on his own experience, Lenny’s keynote promises to be thought-provoking as well as entertaining.
He’ll talk about how and why current workplaces are so far from inclusive, even when it’s so clear that diversity is good for business.
He’ll call on people leaders to champion inclusion as a business responsibility as well as an ethical obligation.
He’ll be introduced by Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester. Delegates need to take their seats by 3:15pm for this session – we’ll be there in good time!
