HR Technology Conference 2018: 4 not-to-miss sessions

HR Technology Conference 2018: 4 not-to-miss sessions

“The annual HR Technology Conference is The Place to Be in the global HR technology market”.

Not the event organizers’ words, or even ours, but leading analysts’ in the sector.

With world-class keynote sessions, best in field presenters, unparalleled networking opportunities and the world’s largest HR technology expo, attendees have come to expect a lot from the annual HR Technology Conference in Las Vegas.

This year’s show looks to be no different.

We can’t wait for the show (we’ll be there at booth 1237 – say hello!) but before we head there, we’ve looked at this year’s agenda to see who is speaking, and who looks like they’re presenting a must-catch session.

We’ve rounded up the top sessions that we recommend joining.

1. Debut of the interim findings of the HR Technology Market 2019 report – Josh Bersin, analyst and founder of Bersin by Deloitte

Tuesday September 11, 2.30pm in the Lando room

This isn’t one of the keynote sessions, but we all know Josh Bersin’s annual report on the HR technology market report is a brilliant overview of the state of play in the sector, and his session previewing the findings for this year’s report will be a must listen.

Designed to be the most comprehensive study of the HR technology market, there’ll be several important takeaways, stats and musings for anyone in the sector.

We also recommend Josh Bersin’s follow up session later in the week The rise of the individual in the world of work on Thursday September 13 at 1.45pm in the Lando room. He’ll expand more on the report’s findings and what it means for how employees interact with and use technology in the workplace.

2. Future consumers: Decoding the trends and opportunities today (keynote) – Randi Zuckerberg, best-selling author founder and CEO of Zuckerberg Media

Wednesday September 12, 8.30am in the Palazzo Ballroom

In Randi Zuckerberg’s words, future consumers aren’t 20 or 30 years off, they’re already here — and they’re driving the way businesses are selling both products and experiences.

In the best-selling author’s keynote session, she’ll explain how technology isn’t only impacting businesses forever, but also the employee experience as we know it.

It’s likely she’ll draw experience from her time at Facebook, setting up her own production company, writing numerous books, and her regular radio show ‘Dot Complicated’ where she chats regularly with entrepreneurs and leaders in the tech sector. Don’t miss out on what promises to be an exciting session.

3. ‘From surviving to thriving: Health, wellness, culture and the future of engaging your workforce’ – Arianna Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post and Thrive Global

Thursday September 13, 8am in the Palazzo Ballroom

We caught Arianna Huffington at UNLEASH Amsterdam last year, when she spoke about the value of wellbeing in the workplace, and why you don’t have to burn out to be successful.

The former editor in chief of Huffington Post left the publication she founded after collapsing from exhaustion, breaking her cheekbone in the process, and asking herself ‘is this really what success looks like?’

Now the founder of wellness company Thrive Global, Arianna Huffington has most recently been in the media for writing an open letter to Elon Musk on the benefit of sleep, encouraging him to find a new way of working.

Our favorite quote from the last time we saw her speak? “You only get one life – and no one quotes the share percentage increase you gain at your eulogy after you’ve gone.” Expect takeaways along the same lines in her keynote session at this show, too.

4. What it takes to be a most admired company for HR – expert panel

Thursday September 13, 8.45am in the Palazzo Ballroom

Johnson & Johnson, Accenture, BlackRock, The Walt Disney Company and Delta Airlines. Some of the world’s biggest brands – and all companies whose most senior HR and People leaders will be speaking in this expert panel session on best in class strategies that earned them a place on the annual ranking of the ‘most admired companies for HR’ list.

They’ll share the strategies and practices that earned their organizations the elite recognition. Attendees will hear how they’ve raised the bar in areas such as performance management, talent acquisition, diversity and inclusion, comp and benefits, and more.

A nice all-rounder session, it looks set to be a great one to kick off the Thursday and get an overview of some tricks and tips HR practitioners can take away for their own roles today.
