Our partnership with Sage and its global significance to the midmarket enterprise
A Q&A with Adam Hale, Sage People CEO
The last 24 hours have been very significant for Sage People, as we announced an extension of our strategic partnership with Sage which will revolutionize how multinational SMEs manage their people.
After all the excitement yesterday, I grabbed some time with our CEO, Adam Hale, to ask for his thoughts on what the partnership means to us and for our future.
Q: Adam, can you summarize yesterday’s announcement for our readers?
In short, Sage has partnered with Sage People to provide Sage’s global customers with a complete and modern cloud HR management system, integrated into its Sage X3 offering. We already had an existing partnership focused on Sage Live. This builds on that and will help Sage extend their existing portfolio of payroll, workforce management and talent management solutions for the midsize enterprise market.
Q: Why did Sage choose Sage People for Sage X3?
Sage People is the most comprehensive HRMS for mid-market multinationals so is a perfect fit for Sage whose target audience is SMEs. Sage People adds valuable recruiting, talent management and workforce management functionality to X3, completing Sage’s cloud application portfolio, and enabling Sage to offer their customers a fully integrated cloud suite. Partnering with us, Sage can more comprehensively service the very fast growing HCM cloud market, so it was a natural fit.
Q: Sage announced that it is also investing in Sage People. That’s exciting news for us. How will that impact the future of our business?
Our partnership with Sage offers us a springboard into the global market alongside a highly trusted provider to SMEs across the world. Sage People has been seeking growth capital to help us expand globally, so this partnership will not only provide us with operational and financial support but open up new market channels. Customers will benefit from ongoing product innovation, further investment in the Customers for Life team and related services, as well as knowing that Sage People is funded to scale-up.
And not forgetting that Sage will also be taking a board seat at Sage People, and we’re excited to welcome their expertise and insight as we grow.
Q: Sage has a strategy of using its own customer solutions within its business, so will Sage be deploying Sage People for their own HR purposes?
Yes, Sage will also be rolling out Sage People HRMS to its 13,000 employees in 23 different countries, in replacement of its current SAP SuccessFactors system. That means that Sage People will be providing Sage’s employees, managers, and HR staff with a modern, unified HCM that will help transform their entire journey with Sage, from recruiting and on-boarding, to performance management and off-boarding.
Q: How does the extended partnership benefit existing Sage People customers?
The investment, the extended partnership, the use of Sage People within Sage – this demonstrates a huge confidence and commitment in us. Having the backing of one of the world’s leading software vendors for SMEs can only be a good thing for our customers. As we develop our partnership, our customers will benefit from more investment in ongoing product innovation, as well as our Customers for Life team and dedicated customer services. It’s good news for everyone!
Q: You are a huge proponent of the scale-up community. Why do you think this announcement is big news for tech scale-ups?
This demonstrates that technology scale ups are alive and well, and very much competing on a global platform, with long term ambitions. Our customers can be confident that they have one of the best HR solutions on the market, and our team can be proud they are on part of a journey to providing global customers access to a world class HR system in the cloud.
