Global Workforce Collaboration experts automate performance management for Oxford Instruments
Reading, UK, 8th May 2013 – Sage People, the leader in Global Workforce Collaboration, today announced that Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, part of Oxford Instruments plc, leading provider of high technology tools and systems for research and industry, has selected Sage People to trial Performance Management systems for the management team.

Spun out from Oxford University over half a century ago, Oxford Instruments is now a global company with over 1,900 staff worldwide and is listed on the FTSE250 index of the London Stock Exchange (OXIG). Its objective is to be the leading provider of new generation tools and systems for the research and industrial sectors. It is involved in a range of diverse projects including the X-Ray technology aboard the Mars Curiosity rover and the development of high density plasma film.

As a large global business with offices across the world, Oxford Instruments wants to understand how manual, paper-based processes constrain effective performance management. So an automated HR Performance Management system has been implemented to support alignment with corporate objectives and increase focus on personal development, assessment and talent development. For a global business, an intuitive online solution which can be accessed from anywhere is key to ready adoption.

Helen Kirkcaldy, Human Resource Director at Oxford Instruments comments, “As a company which is growing internationally, the effective performance management and talent development of our people around the world will be crucial to our future success. We are running a project to evaluate how we can improve this and a pilot automation of our Performance Management process is an important step in this project. Sage People presented us with an easy to use system which is truly global.”

After a review of the market, Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology selected Sage People to provide its Performance Management software. Available as part of Sage People’s Human Capital Management platform, Performance Management enables users to set clear objectives, perform 360 competency assessments, complete performance reviews, and highlight development needs.

Helen continued, “With Sage People we are able to incorporate our competency models with customisable indicators, so that our managers can have value-adding conversations about development with their teams. We will also survey participants to assess their overall impressions of the Performance Management process. This will enable us to monitor usage, evaluate improvements and decide how to move forward with the system. Even better, the entire survey process is being managed via Sage People HCM.”

Nic Scott, CEO, Sage People comments, “It is essential for rapidly growing, global organisations such as Oxford Instruments to keep managers motivated and aligned to deliver company-wide objectives. It has been great to work with such a forward-looking company to deliver a system which will grow alongside them.”
