The contingent workforce is growing and becoming more diverse to include agencies, freelancers, gig workers and job bidders, presenting challenges to the way leaders manage their teams and track performance. In addition, for the first time, the workforce is comprised of five different generations, all working side-by-side, and all coming with varying expectations and standards of how, when and where they work.
Ultimately, employees are no longer all based in one team with one direct line manager, working 9 to 5 in the same office. They’re disparate across time zones and locations, with different line managers and goals, and in matrix style teams.
