Its goal is to surpass commercial ECM offerings in terms of features, functionality and benefits to the user community. As a company it continues to demonstrate more cutting-edge thinking than commercial counterparts such as Microsoft SharePoint, IBM, EMC, Oracle, and OpenText.
Alfresco has undergone rapid growth expanding globally and because it was hiring at a swift pace it needed a new solution, which could be implemented, accessed and used across remote teams. Patti Rain-Wiffin, Global HR Director, had previously used a vast, complex and time-consuming spread sheet format offering no automated work-flow support. This made interaction between global offices difficult, offering no multiple-language solution.
Rain-Wiffin said, “Moving to the cloud was the logical step for us. We have the freedom and functionality to use a system which can be accessed and updated at anytime, anywhere in the world whilst keeping costs down.”
It was clear as Alfresco continued to grow, it needed a global platform on which to operate its HR functions. The company needed a solution which would not only deal with the typical types of HR services, such as employment records, reviews and reporting, but also to address the more complex issues involved in having offices spread across several countries. The system was required to work across all Alfresco offices uniting the company, but also offering local support for things such as language and currency.
The company specifically wanted the ability to log and change data values such as bonuses, commission and current stock. Therefore any new process would have to be able to effectively handle remuneration for Alfresco’s employees.
A Fresh Global Approach
Having set clear objectives, Rain-Wiffin identified Sage People as the only HR software provider which could deliver a fully automated work flow solution on a global scale. Sage People’s Human Capital Management (HCM) module provided Alfresco’s HR operations with the ability to manage fully automated work flows, something competitors were unable to do within Alfresco’s budget.
Rain-Wiffin notes, “Sage People was able to configure a system around our specific needs taking into account our policies around assessment, performance reviews, location, absence and holiday. For us this was key. The global functionality Sage People offers, automated the admin chores, now I have time to focus on growing and developing other aspects of the HR function within the company.
With offices all over the world the new system was configured around different employment laws, for example in France and the USA holiday allowance is calculated differently to that of other countries. Sage People also has the ability to switch between currencies and, where possible, offer a language selection tool. In total Sage People’s HCM solution provides support for eight different currencies and offers English, French, German and Spanish for users to select in self-service.
Rain-Wiffin commented, “With Alfresco continuing to expand our global reach, we need technology which can grow and develop with us.
